1. Unicycle

   Lets start this list with the oldest FUN vehicle there is: a unicycle. Dating back from the late 19th century, its design was very simple. The pedal and cranks were connected directly to the front axle, so the rear wheel would go up in the air and the rider would be moved slightly forward. Although titled 10 Scary Concepts to Consider, this article could also be called A Call To Social Consciousness.

Most of you have seen Zeitgeist the Movie, which is why it isn’t here on this list. This is a collection of scary concepts: some are just trends with the potential and tendency to come about, others are already here, waiting to be identified by the world at large. Take a look and see how many of them you are aware of already.

1. Epic 2014 & Epic 2015 – Museum of Media History

   Epic 2014  is the original flash online movie made by Robin Sloan for the Museum of Media History. Set in 2014 it charts the history of the Internet, the evolving mediascape and the way news and newspapers were affected by the growth in online news. It coined the word “Googlezon” from a future merger of Google and Amazon to form the Google grid, and speaks of news wars with the Times becoming a print only paper for the elite culminating in EPIC Evolving Personalised Information Construct. As a flash animation, this film is extraordinary, not just for it’s use of technology but for it’s fantastic perception looking forward.  Epic 2015 is a new updated vision of the future set in 2015.

2. Climate Change – True or False?

    

   We’ve all heard a lot on the subject of global climate change. Most of us have watched the movie An Inconvenient Truth where Al Gore walks us through the process of global warming and its alarming foreseeable consequences. Most of us have also heard that global warming is nothing more than a power struggle and a conglomerate conspiracy to scare the masses and take control of the world. So, which one is it?

   Greg Craven, a science teacher from Oregon, USA, has a new and refreshing approach to the ever-present dilemma of global warming. His little video clip, entitled THE MOST TERRIFYING VIDEO YOU’LL EVER SEE has caused quite a buzz on the Internet, having over 7,500,000 total views. Watch it, and spread the word!

   The Story of Bottled Water employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand—how you get people to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. 4. Breathing Earth

   Breathing Earth is a real-time simulation which displays the CO2 emissions of every country in the world, as well as their birth and death rates. Although the CO2 emission, birth rate and death rate data used in Breathing Earth comes from reputable sources, data that measures things on such a massive scale can never be 100% accurate. Please note however that the CO2 emission levels shown here are much more likely to be too low than they are to be too high.

6. Killer Chemtrails

   Chemtrails are persistent lines of chemical-infused aerosol spray dispersals from typically unmarked planes which are now seen in the sky all over the world. Unlike normal jet contrails formed from water vapor, chemtrails spread to form a thick blanket of cloud cover, held together by polymer fibers until they reach the ground, contaminating crops, water supplies and humans with radioactive soft metals and dessicated red blood cells which contain active human pathogens.

   A nicely done informative video presentation that explains the causes of cancer and its proper prevention and treatment. What is scary about this is that it isn’t common knowledge.

8. Aspartame

   The most prevalent artificial sugar in our food supply today is called aspartame, which is also recognized as NutraSweet or Equal. Aspartame has made its way into more than 6,000 products including almost all diet sodas, chewing gum, frozen desserts, yogurt, and even vitamins and cough drops. 200 times sweeter than sugar, aspartame is a combination of two amino acids: aspartic acid and phenylalanine.

   Even though the safety of aspartame has been affirmed by the Food and Drug Administration 26 times in the past 23 years, the FDA has received more complaints about adverse reactions to aspartame than any other food ingredient in the agency’s history. Immediate reactions include severe headaches, dizziness, attention difficulties, memory loss, throat swelling, and seizures. Long term effects include blood sugar problems, insomnia, diabetes, ovarian cancer, and brain tumors. One study from Kings College in England found that the more NutraSweet is consumed, the more likely tumors are to develop.

9. How Creationists Explain Evolution

   While evolution is now accepted as a fact by science and is becoming accepted by the Catholic Church, the mechanism underlying its most important aspect, the evolutionary progress, is not clearly established. Science can tolerate being unsure about some things. But science cannot entertain the notion that there are phenomena in the everyday natural world that require supernatural intervention. Yet that requirement is precisely what creationists, by definition, want to establish.
